Focus

Galatians 5:13 ESV
For you were called . . . only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Love is an action.

Decision

How are you spending your time lately?  Are you devoting time toward caring for your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs? Or are you consumed by entertainment, social media, or even a crisis in your personal life?

Do you find yourself taking care of only your own interests, or are you making time to serve others, too?

It is so important for us to pause and inventory our time. God gave us the freedom to decide how we want to spend each day and where we want to invest ourselves, but that freedom can easily be taken for granted and the gift of time can slip away, entirely misused.

Our desire for comfort, amidst a culture that emphasizes entertainment and pleasure, makes choosing to use our time to do the hard things, like serving others, a challenge.

While it is wise to make time for ourselves, in particular for rest and pleasure, it is as important to demonstrate our love for the Lord and for others through acts of service.

[Tweet “Love is an action word. So how will you choose to show your love for others?”]

Serving is a way to display what we say we feel toward others in a language that will make sense to those who are followers of Christ and to those who’ve yet to meet the Risen King. How can you serve others today?

Surrender

Heavenly Father, forgive me for not using my time wisely. Help me, Lord, to take stock of the many hours you’ve given to me each day so that I can use them to demonstrate love in action. Thank you, Lord, that your grace is sufficient, allowing seasons of serving boldly and other times when I need to be served. Help me to accept each with humility and gratefulness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Reflection

What is one way that you are not wisely using your time on a daily basis?  How can you tackle that issue today and begin a new habit of serving others with that precious gift of time?
