Hope-Filled Encouragement for Moms {and a giveaway}

Are you facing the day feeling worn down?

Is your hope flame flickering in the windy days of raising teens and praying simply for survival?

You’re not alone. So many moms, just like you, are weighed down with worry about their children’s future. With issues like Victoria’s Secret coming out with a line marketed at middle-schoolers and Seventeen magazine promoting a new Rated R movie, Spring Breakers  — well, you should feel the weight of your motherhood resting somewhere between your heart and mind.

It doesn’t feel so good, does it?

But don’t despair, momma.  There are so many wonderful resources and opportunities that can encourage you to find the hope you’re looking for today. No, I’m not promising a magic genie or fix-it-all drug. Nothing like that exists for those of us who live in reality.  But take, for example, the ministry of Focus on the Family and the opportunity to listen to their broadcasts on a daily basis. In less than 30 minutes a day, you can be exposed to new authors and ministries that quite possibly may speak a word of truth and hope into your life.  God works that way!

Finding hope for your motherhood journey isn’t hard. But, you’ll need to embrace the opportunties to be fed and encouraged.  For example, I didn’t know how powerfully I would be impacted through listening to the recent interview with the co-authors of Lead Your Family Like Jesus It was part of my routine to listen to the Focus on the Family podcast as I walked the dog. And right there, God showed up for me. Through using Ken Blanchard, Phil Hodges, and Tricia Goyer, He spoke straight to my heart, enabling me to walk away with three refreshing truths:

1.  Even if you didn’t grow up in a Christian home, you can still raise your children to live and love like Jesus.  <–click to tweet

2.  You can be intentional and creative in offering ways to help your kids grasp a godly vision for their lives, and sometimes that comes through brainstorming a family mission statement and other times it comes through trusting them to make decisions and experience the consequences.

3.  You might desire obedience out of your kids, but it starts with love — in the same way that we’re called to obey God out of a heart for love for Him (John 14:15).

Through listening to two short broadcasts — on my morning walk and later when I emptied the dishwasher and put away some laundry — I gained a rich dose of encouragement to spur me on in my mothering.  If I want to take it further, I can dig into my copy of Lead Your Family Like Jesus, where I can pull out application points that fit best for my family now and cast a vision for the future. Isn’t that something you can do, too?

Hope is Here

Hope, of course, is found first and foremost in the Word and through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Nothing compares to the hope we find in Him (Romans 5:1-5). But there are those weary moments and worn down days when we need the Word spoken over us and to draw us out of the pit of despair.  It is times like that we can thank the Lord for hope shared by those who care deeply about our motherhood calling.RGT Twitter Party

Whether it is through listening to a broadcast grounded in biblical principles or digging to a resource that puts life application in practical terms, it is God’s gift to us to experience words of hope like energy drinks for the mother-athlete.

Hope for a momma can be an unexpected gift — as it often is. But it can also be planned — like deciding to make the investment of time and money in order to attend a conference designed especially for moms. There are so many of these get-away and refueling opportunities, but of course, there is one I am partial to:  Raising Generations Today

Did you know that early bird tickets go on sale this weekend with a big Twitter party kickoff and a chance to win some wonderful prizes, including a ticket? Find out more here!

Yes, one year from now, Raising Generations Today, will have nurtured more than 300 women with hope found in the Word, in Christ, and through relationships amongst other mothers locked arm in arm, moving from workshop to workshop to discover how to bring home to their families a mind-set of leading like Jesus.  Anticipating this conference infuses my own heart with hope, as I await to see how God will distribute His portion of hope beyond our wildest expectations.
