A Different Kind of Kiss

We all want a deeper intimacy (in-to-me-see) with God.  That is why we spend time seeking Him through various means like Bible study and scripture memory, serving and even fasting. We want to feel God and somehow connect our heads to our hearts.  But what should we do when we go through the motions of drawing closer to God, even out of obedience to the Word, but still find ourselves disconnected from Him?  What if we are in too big a hurry to wait on the Lord to show up? What if our impatience gets in the way?

If you find yourself in that empty place, be encouraged.

God is placing that yearning in your heart for one reason:

He is drawing you closer to Himself.

With a Kiss

Have you ever considered that a passage about kissing from the Song of Solomon in the Bible could help you understand your longing and need for God in a whole new way? In chapter 1 of Song of Solomon, there is a kiss we need to learn about.

Song of Solomon 1:1-2, 4

“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth – for your love is more delightful than wine. Take me away with you – let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers.”

The King represents Jesus and the young bride is us. And the word “kiss” has numerous meanings in Hebrew, which can enlighten our understanding of this verse and encourage us with biblical hope.  A kiss can mean to fasten upon, attach to, equip with weapons, and catch on fire. It can also mean to seize, strengthen, cure, help, repair, fortify and delight in.

So what do you need King Jesus to do for you today?

I desperately need Him to seize those things that need to calm down in my soul. I need to attach to Him so I will conform to His image. I want to delight in Him and be pliable, and I want to love Him passionately.

As you meditate on these definitions, what needs to be strengthened or established in your heart for you to experience the deeper intimacy He so desires with You?

“For your love is better than wine,” says the woman to the King. The word “love” in Hebrew means to boil with affection, to be effervescent. This love the King has for us doesn’t depend on our performance or our being good. And this love can’t come from any other human being.

Sometimes the Lord ushers us into His chamber, away from the world, just like the King in Song of Solomon. He takes us into a private place, drawing us away from the party to deal with the issues of our lives.

In the chamber we become aware of the things in us that are not like Jesus. Many times we don’t like to be drawn away from the party. It may seem like we are being punished because of something wrong that we may have done! This was certainly how I felt at one season of my life. During grief and loss of my brothers, He used those desperate times when I thought I couldn’t even catch my breath to stretch me.

He shows a  sweetness in our most desperate times.  The enemy will try and bring guilt and condemnation and bring up everything we are not to take us out of that happy place. Be on guard.

Give Him Your Heart

God  is always changing us from glory to glory. He is transforming His bride into His image. To resist his work will bring upon us further strain. We were never meant to stay at our present level of maturity with the Lord. The best things happen inside the King’s chamber — where He dwell sin our hearts — and when we are vulnerable yet accountable to HIM.

We are the tabernacle that is to be kissed by the bridegroom. When we enter into His arms, He will wipe away every tear and heal all the broken places in our hearts as we just sit and rest in HIM.

I pray you will ask the Lord what He wants to do in your heart in order to draw you closer to Him.

Father, may we embrace the grace we’ve been given and run to you. May we allow your kiss of love meet all our needs today.
