Focus

Matthew 4:10 CEV
Jesus answered, “Go away Satan! The Scriptures say: ‘Worship the Lord your God
 and serve only him.’”

What is better?

Decision

What is it that grabs your attention and causes you to focus intently, passionately, purposefully?  Is it your work, education, ministry? Is it your relationships? Is it a hobby?  Is it your health and fitness pursuits?

Isn’t it interesting that many of the ways we invest our time each day reflects our desire to please the Lord, and yet these good things can often distract us from truly worshiping and serving God wholeheartedly.

[Tweet “We will always be tempted to devote more time on what we’re doing instead of the One who made us to do it.”]

God sows into our hearts and personalities unique passions and desires that reflect His design. However, the challenge before is it to resist the enemy’s cunning techniques at using what is good to distract us from what is better — worshiping the Lord our God and serving him only! That’s why you should start every day by putting your armor on so that you may stand strong with a focus on serving the Lord first and foremost.

Surrender

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for worshiping anything other than you. Please show me if how I invest my time, money, and resources is a form of worship that distracts me from You. Re-align my priorities to reflect your desires for me life, instead of getting carried away with my own plans. Bind up the work of the enemy so that I may not be distracted or tempted to stray from worshiping you. In Jesus’ Powerful Name, Amen.

Reflection

What are you tempted to worship more than God? How can you set up boundaries? What accountability relationships can help to keep your spirit in check?
