Focus

John 13:15 ESV
For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.

What if we followed Jesus' example . . .

Decision

What do you think it means to live a life of impact? Do you think you need to have special training? Would you like to have a certificate or degree qualifying you to speak into someone’s life? Do you feel like you need a clean slate in order to step into a position of influence without being called a hypocrite?

Becoming a woman of impact isn’t about accomplishing a certain level of notoriety or social standing. It isn’t about becoming an expert or an authority figure. Living as a person of impact — no matter how young or old you are — lies solely in the example you set in how you live each day.  This example isn’t perfection. It is about humility.  It is about striving to live obedient to the Word and modeling the path of repentance when you fall short.

The example we set for others reflects our priorities and core beliefs, and it speaks volumes to those around us. People watch! Isn’t that why reality TV is so popular? Our nature is to study the patterns and behaviors of others, and make a judgement call about whether we want to be like them or entirely differently. Jesus knew this foundational truth, as He  instructed the disciples to follow His example.

Jesus was a man of action, living out His beliefs and asking questions rather than proclaiming rules.

What if we applied this principle set forth in the Word, and lived in such a way to follow the pattern of Christ, so that our impact may really be His impact?

Surrender

Lord Jesus, thank you for setting a pattern in how I am to live. Please help me to understand how to follow your example, without setting unrealistic expectations on myself. God, I don’t want to hold back from living the life you’ve called me to nor do I want to be paralyzed by condemnation over my lack of follow through. Please, Father, guard my mind, blocking out the noise and doubt, and replacing it with a heart full of desire to live like your beloved Son. I want to live a life of impact, in which the pattern I set for others allows them to see you, Jesus, my Redeemer and Savior. In Jesus’ Powerful Name, Amen!

Reflection

What one thing can you do this week that would reflect the example Jesus set in how he lived and taught and served?

  1. Beautifully said. It’s so easy to forget that we’re all role models and people ARE watching us. I try to remember that I’m a leader and I want to have a positive impact on this world. I take a few breaks during my day to stop and ask myself, “Am I being kind?” and “Am I living my purpose?”
