Oh friend, you’re not alone. I’ve heard this heart-cry time and time again, and I’ve experienced it myself. But I’ve also discovered that often our longing for a mentor is something God wants to fill for us, if only we’re able to look around our lives with a fresh God-ordained perspective. Oh yes, mentoring may be happening in ways you can’t even see because you expect it to be shaped this way or that.
As Kim Amici, co-host of the Slices of Life Podcast confesses in our recent conversation, she felt all alone and ripe for a mentor, but it seemed there was no one willing to serve her that way. Maybe that was true. Maybe she was all alone. But I believe that alone isn’t the way God designed for us to live. He made us to be intertwined within the family of God through the work of Jesus Christ in our lives. And He longs for us to be connected, woman to woman, generation to generation.
So what would it take to bridge the gap between women, between one generation to the next, and cultivate a circle of mentors arounds us as we become mentors to those younger than us?
