Is God Enough for You?

If you were to work, play, write, sing, dance, or worship and no one noticed, would that be enough for you?

Would you still continue to do what you do without anyone noticing?

As humans we all like to be noticed, irrespective of the reality that such attention can sometimes be to our detriment.

We long to be noticed.

As a little girl, I always wanted my parents to see and be there when I did my recital or played my first tennis match. I wanted to share my big moments with them. Otherwise, it felt less fulfilling. As I grew older, my desire for their presence did not change. I can still remember the rare occasions when they were unable to make it to my performances.

When I turned my attention away from my parents to God, I was led to ask myself whether I was still prepared to do what I felt I should do even if no one notices. What is my motivation based on? What is your motivation based on?

Our hurdle lies in our human flesh where we want to be seen and recognized for what we do. We enjoy the attention and applause of people, but are we not missing out on a greater audience which we already have by focusing on the attention of others?

How about I tell you that even when no one is looking or no one ever notices your effort, you always have an audience.

Isaiah 49:16 (NKJV)

See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

God is always watching.

He sees every thought you have, every word you say, write, or sing, and every effort you make. Let that be enough. Let Him be enough.

Is God's applause enough for you?

Everything starts between you and God. When God places a dream in your heart, it is between you and Him. When God gave Joseph a dream about the calling He had for his life, Joseph was so excited and wanted to share it with others, which seems like a normal thing to do. His brothers and father did not receive His dream with the same excitement, but instead were jealous of him and resented Joseph since God did not give them the same faith that He gave Joseph for the calling of his life.

His family’s reaction could have easily led to Joseph doubting God’s calling for his life. Fortunately, he looked passed them and held on to God’s Word.

We often make the mistake that we seek the approval and applause of others who have not been given the same calling that we have. Instead of sharing our greatest moments with God, Who is our ever present audience, we look to man.

Proverbs 29:26 (NKJV)

Many seek the ruler’s favor, But justice for man comes from the LORD.

Do not let the reactions of others or the lack thereof discourage you. Do not let the ignorance of others hold you back. Instead, thrive in being who you believe God meant for you to be. Rejoice in knowing He is always watching and cheering you on.

Every decision we make, we choose between the inputs of others or the leading of the Holy Spirit. Which do you choose?

1 Corinthians 10:31 further says, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Like a little child seeking the praise of her father or mother, so God wants to be the applause we seek.

Let Him be the reason for your efforts. Live as if He is watching, sing as if He is listening, write as if He is reading, and work as if He is rewarding you, because He is. Always.

Romans 6:10 (NKJV)

For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
