A Simple Invitation, Without Strings Attached

I will confess my sin before God daily before
bringing my requests before Him.

Hosea 14:2  (NLT)

Bring your confessions, and return to the Lord. Say to him, “Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, so that we may offer you our praises.

Psalm 5:3 (NLT)

Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord.
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

Psalm 66:18 (NLT)

If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the invitation to come to You daily and for giving us a pattern to follow . . . to rise in the morning and speak with you right away. Forgive us, Lord, when we turn elsewhere first.

It’s so hard, Lord, to push off the demands and distractions to make time to sit with you. We have this idea in our minds about what a “perfect time” together should look like, and the enemy most certainly uses it to defeat us. Rather than giving our best, we give you nothing at all, feeling as though what we can offer is not good enough.

Oh, Lord, break us free from this bondage of expectations and perfect pursuits.

Remind us that this invitation to come to you is rooted in love with no strings attached. Remind us of your kindness and gentleness. Remind us that confessing our sins before you is a GREAT thing to do, because you forgive us.

Thank You for pouring out your new mercies every morning. Please Lord, impress this on our hearts so that we can live brave and bold, bright and beautiful, totally unhindered by sin that so easily entangles.

Set us free, God, with your forgiveness.

In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.

O, Lord, break us free from this bondage of expectations & perfect pursuits.

Does the idea of confessing your sin make you squirm? Would you rather push it to the back burner a bit and deal with it later? Or does this topic of sin bring to mind a laundry list of mistakes, mishaps, short-comings, and downright disobedience? Do you feel like your life has been nothing short of one sin-stained fiasco after another?

Well, the good news is this: God doesn’t categorize our sin the way we do.

But He doesn’t look the other way either. He sees our sin plainly. He sees our brokenness clearly. He sees our guilt before we’ve even identified it for ourselves.

And He, the God of the Universe, decided in advance what to do with all that He sees and knows.

While we’re tap dancing around “the issue,” He’s not. He knows sin erects a wall between us, and so He’s made a way for it to be torn down. Why? Because we are His children and He desires to be intimately connected to us . . . a connection that can’t happen as long as we’re actively sinning.

God, in His kindness, ordains it so that Jesus’ death on the cross satisfies the debt for our sin once and for all.

While Christ’s shed blood doesn’t remove the consequences we might experience, we do not need to live apart from an intimate relationship with God . . . no matter what sin we’ve committed.

In His kindness, He invites us to keep clean accounts with Him. He waits patiently for us to speak our first breath to His bent ear.

God, in His remarkable, holy, and compassionate way, invites us to unload our guilt and shame, our burdens and sin, right at the foot of the cross daily, so that we may go forth upright and free to ask for anything we need from Him.

Oh friend, let’s us not put off this daily invitation a day longer. Let’s strip down our excuses and simply show up before the throne of God . . . show up as we are before a God that loves us totally as is.

What is standing in the way of you approaching the throne of God with your honest heart, humble before Him?
