Please welcome today, Sarah Elizabeth, a twenty-something gal with wisdom, transparency, and a “more to be” perspective on the topic of being more. Her thoughts capture our daily struggle with identity, providing a beautiful voice to many of our secret-heart fears and insecurities. But it doesn’t have to stay this way. Take a few minutes to read Sarah Elizabeth’s story and download our new Identity handout for further study.
We Are More
“What does this mean?” I thought, frantically searching my mind and heart for the answers. “We are more.” This one puzzled me. Yes, three words shook me and I didn’t know why at first. “Why am I more?” “What am I more than?”
I had read a challenging post this past week on another blogger’s site about what it meant to be a “true woman” and I couldn’t help but to dwell on those three seemingly simplistic words. “We are more than what exactly?” I let that thought wash over me and I suddenly realized that I am more than just me. I am more than all of my shortcomings. I am more than my failed attempts to fly. I AM MORE. And I was reminded by that simply worded trio that I am a reflection of Christ.
I am woman. I am more than. I am a reflection of Him.
I am more than just a woman. I am not just a bookshop girl. I am not just a wannabe writer. I am not just a student of the University of Life. I am not just a girlfriend. I am more than my fears. I am more than my lack of confidence. I am more than just a sister. I am more than just my crazy emotions. I am more than my weaknesses would have me know. I am more than a daughter. I am more than my jeans size. I am more than the words that I compose. I am more than my insecurities. I am more than…
You and I are more.
We are not just mere women, because we have come from God (1 Corinth. 11:12.) We are a beautifully crafted reflection of Him. How can we entertain the thought that we are less than when God who is within us is obviously more than enough? How can we dare to compare ourselves to our fellow reflection-sisters who sit or stand to our left and to our right? We can’t. We cannot compare, because just like them we are more too. Different, yes, and crafted in our own unique ways for His purposes.
Don’t you think we need to fight to become a more-than kind of woman? I do. I want to be the kind of woman who is not defined by her job description, but rather by the King which she serves. We are more because it is He who lives within us. We are more because it is He who defines us. We are more because in His eyes we are priceless vessels.
When you are feeling like the world is bigger than you, or maybe like the woman sitting beside you is so much more, please know that YOU ARE MORE. You have a purpose, whether clearly defined or currently undefined. We are not just women, we are so much more!
It’s your turn: What are YOU more than? Will you reflect on these three tiny words today? Will you dare to search for what He sees within your more-than soul instead of comparing yourself to other fellow sisters around you who seem to be worth so much more than you?
About Sarah Elizabeth
At 22, Sarah Elizabeth is the proverbial restless bird, bookstore girl and wannabe novelist living in the beautiful WNC mountain foothills. She currently lives at home with her younger sister, her parents, a bichon named Abby and 6 chickens which she (gulp) is deathly afraid of. When she’s not writing she is reading and when she’s not reading she’s photographing something. Ultimately she writes to connect, to reflect, to release and then to share, because that is what she’s been called to do by her King.
