To Bless Them Today

The clock tick tocks, tick tocks keeping rhythm with the swish and motor grind of the dishwasher and the whirl of the washing machine, filling my home with the sounds of chores breaking forth into the early day.  These background whispers ground my heart back to reality, reminding me that writing and praying and dreaming won’t ever make the laundry basket looming in the distance get up and fold itself.

Such a shame.

Wouldn’t it be nice if suddenly the lint and elastic and cotton and polyester would rally together to form the March of the Loads, parading through the house right into the catawompus dresser drawers and over-stuffed closets?

But no.

The tasks of keeping home fall within reason, even if they aren’t within my want to, per se.  Yes, I desire to bless my family with caring for their practical needs, but oh how I love to pour time into those things that stir my passions. Writing.  Speaking.  Teaching.  Life coaching.

Eventually, I’ll launch from my perch and spin through the house putting all in its proper place, but my mind will be making to-do lists and considering the intricacies of my projects.

Until.

Until the faces of my precious children walk through the door at four.  Until I see in their eyes the needs of their hearts and senses in their spirits the tender portions of their souls.

And then, I remember.

They are an indescribable gift God graciously gave to me.  In His mercy, He made me for them…to be there momma.  To care for their needs.  To demonstrated His love. My passions and purposes are designed to bless them as much as they are meant to feed my own soul and accomplish His brilliant work.

And I remember, again, that my role as mom and keeper of the house isn’t about the laundry or dishes or putting things away. It is about making a home a sanctuary for the souls that find rest and safety from the world outside.  The souls I love more than my passions and purposes and pursuits.

How are your passions and purposes and pursuits being used to bless others today?

Are you ready to finally live intentionally, bringing your passions and purposes to life by having them line up with your priorities?

  1. Oh girl! I remember those days all so well – longing for those precious faces to appear again after school. Although, mine are all graduated now. I still have that longing – my favorite days are when they pop in. We laugh. giggle. smile. talk non-sense. And I realize what a gift I have in that moment. That they still want to come home. That we still laugh, giggle, and snort. Blessings sweet friend. So thankful to have a bloggy friend in YOU.

  2. I had to click over when I saw your photo of the laundry basket. That is my life summed up in one image:) I so understand the tension between pursuing my passions and my need to just get.things.done.
