If you like it, then you better put a blazer on it.

I’m so excited to introduce you to one of our newest contributors, Allie, who comes to us with a flair for fashion and a love for Jesus. Each month, Allie will be sharing a C3:12 post in which she will take a look at the latest fashion and beauty trends but through a different sort of lens. Instead of simply focusing on what we can put on our skin, she is going to also consider a spiritual aspect of living a beautiful life. As we share in our Redefining Beauty materials, true beauty is how we live in the skin we’re in. That skin is important to take of, but as Allie mentions below, we need to cultivate our inner beauty as we pursue Christ and God’s truth each day.

Don’t you love an item that you can wear with pretty much anything and it keeps you warm?

Blazers are no longer just for work and school uniforms.

The same cute little jacket that you wore with your dress pants during the day can be paired with jeans at night. Whether you are working, learning, or one of my favorite activities…shopping, you can always throw on a blazer to stay cute and warm. My husband is always making fun of my constant proclamation that I am cold. Maybe you are like me or maybe you tend to be a little more on the warm side. Either way, I am sure there is a blazer out there for you. I love that locations like H & M and Forever 21 are making adorable, affordable blazers in almost every color and fabric weight. Or if you like to shop online, you can check out ones like this or this or this.

But much more than a great article of clothing, it is important to dress yourself with the Holy things.

Tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience are the specific things that God wants you to “put on.” There are so many locations that you can go to see what is “on trend” in fashion for the season, and those things are important.

Lets face it, what you have on the outside affects your attitude about yourself. The problem comes when what you have on the outside is your main focus. You cannot put anything above your desire to nurture your relationship with God on the inside. You should be careful, though, not to view God as a judgmental man in Heaven who never wants you to enjoy life or care about your physical appearance. God wants you to have fun. Just keep Him first.
How do you think a blazer would work in your wardrobe?

More importantly, which one of these will you put on today:  compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength dignity?

  1. Great post, Allie (and welcome to the team!). I have a camel-colored blazer I’m particularly fond of. I can tell I’m going to like this series of posts. 🙂

  2. I appreciate the reminder of clothing yourself with God’s fullness! It is nice to know that we are beautiful from the inside out. Nothing more beautiful than a women in love with God and dressed in a really cute blazer!
