Praying for Your Teen Sons

Are you looking for a way to connect with your teen son?

Have you ever considered that one of the most important ways is by choosing to pray for him?Moms of Boys

Yes, to pray for him…and maybe even with him.

Oh, I know you have heard it so many times, and I’m sure many of you are praying for your sons, but let me remind you again because it is so important and shouldn’t be taken lightly!

Pray! Pray! And pray some more for your teen sons!

They are living in a culture that can and will eat them alive if they are not standing on a firm foundation.

They need God!

Our culture has robbed men of their value.  Turn on the TV, read today’s literature, or spend time out and about.  To the world the men are the stupid ones, the lazy ones, the ones who can’t be trusted and the ones who deserve nothing but heartache.  This is the world our teen sons will be entering as men and they need to be prayed up!

So What Should You Pray?

I wanted to share a few things that you should be praying about for you sons. I know you will have some ideas, too, and would love if you would share those thoughts in the comments.

Pray for your son’s spouse NOW!  It doesn’t matter that you don’t know them, God does.  HE knows that special woman that is meant for your son, so pray for her.  Pray that God protects her, keeps her, and grows her.

Pray for your son to not walk away from the Lord.  I have read many stories of sons that have rebelled against godly parents for a time and have come back.  These are great stories to hear, but let it not keep you from praying they never walk away from HIM.  If it is too late, and your son has already chosen a different path, be praying for him to return to you and the Lord.  Don’t stop for NOTHING!  Don’t give up until that son comes back!prayer

Pray for your son to be able to take care of his family financially.  I believe this is his responsibility, even though I know the world says differently. There are certainty exceptions, but pray God shows him how to use his gifts for HIS glory.  It may be ministry, a career, or a family business, for only God knows, so give it to the Lord in prayer.

Pray for your son to keep his heart, body and mind pure.  This is a real tough one in today’s environment.  Really tough.  Pray for it anyway!  I will talk in later posts on some things you can do help your son in this area, but you need God’s grace and protection here more than anything else.

Pray for your son’s safety and health. Pray that no evil will come against him.

There are so many other things to pray about, but these are some of the most important petitions you can make on your son’s behalf.  Prayer works, don’t ever believe it doesn’t.  Answers are not always immediate, but our God is always faithful!  Our teen sons need prayer more than anything else.

  1. Hi Angela,

I am the mother of two son’s 21 ans 19, the last 4 years have been a challenge to say the least. One of the things the Lord has grown me in is standing on His word {believing and trusting} in His faithfulness and praying for my sons. Thank you for this article it was a blessing.

  2. I read your article, thank you so much for it. I’m so desperate already. My son is 20 and walked away from the lord, since he is 15 he does everything we taught him not to do. It scares me to hear his accusation against the lord I feel so helpless and sometimes so discouraged that I can’t even pray. Please help me to pray for my son.

  3. Your article about praying for our teens encouraged me so much. Ever since my son went to a public high school, he has changed. He is now graduating from high school and suffice it to say that the last four years have put me and my husband on our knees more times than I can remember. We are still praying fervently because he is running away from God and that hurts me more than the disrespectful way he treats me. Thank you for your website where hurting parents of teens can get encouragement.

  4. I share these prayers for my 18 year old son. He is on the wrong path but I know he believes in God so I pray and pray that the Holy Spirit guides him.

  5. Please join me and my family in prayer for my 18 year old son. He is making some terrible choices right now that will affect his future. He has always been raised up in church.I know that with God’s help he can and will change his ways and do what is right. Please pray!

  6. Pray for my 19 n 17 year old sons. Lord knows We need it. Keep them covered out of harms way and crimes way in Jesus Name. Amen
