Changing Lanes

One evening not too long ago, I was driving home and went to make the left turn into my neighborhood.  Suddenly I noticed the string of orange traffic cones and signs reading “No Entering” blocking off my turn lane. To complete the picture, workers in reflective vests were in the process of tearing up the road.

In a split second I had to merge lanes again to avoid running into the “No Entering” sign. My route had to change on the spot, and I hadn’t been prepared for it.  I had had no warning at all, just a sign and some good quality brakes, thank goodness!

Has this ever happened to you?

Not so much the traffic situation, but the quick change in the  or course of your life.

There you are, going about your normal everyday routine and BAM, there is a change you didn’t see coming.

You’re then forced to quickly react to this change, good or bad, and adapt again.

Let me tell you, friends, I was so aggravated with having to change my direction that evening.  I was in a rush to get home and get dinner started, pick up the house, etc., and this new traffic pattern was only making me later and pushing my to-do list back further and further.  It was an inconvenience, plain and simple, having to drive the extra mile up to the next exit and take that route home.  I did NOT have time for this change. Then, as I got back on the road it hit me.

God can change our course of direction at any time.

He knows the bigger picture and can see the bright orange cones and the danger signs up ahead when we cannot.

What we sometimes see as inconveniences, He sees as opportunities.

Where we are incapable, He shows us His remarkable power.

When we fear change in our lives, He shows us the possibilities if we would only trust in Him.

2013 is just getting started and I’m curious to know, how many of you are ready to change for Christ? Actually, let me change that “you” to an “us” because I want to include myself as well.

How many of us are ready to change for Christ?

How many of us are willing to listen to Him and change our current course of direction?

This could be something “big” you have been feeling called to do for Christ (e.g. missions, career, etc.) or it could be any number of less dramatic changes. It may mean that we have to work hard, even when we’re exhausted or bored at work or school.  It may mean that we need to let go of our day to day routine and leave room for the unexpected.  It may mean avoiding those danger signs even when we don’t see any evidence of actual danger. But friends, we know that danger is always around us don’t we?  If we are working to expand the Kingdom of God, there will be danger from the enemy.  He will try to tell us it is safe to cross the turning lane when it isn’t.  We must open our hearts and listen to Christ as He leads us.

Will you take this challenge with me today friends?

Let us take the challenge together that we will no longer be resistant to changing our course of direction.  If God has put something in our lives that alters our direction, it is because He sees where we cannot see.

In what ways will you change for Christ in 2013?

Has there been a time in your life when your course of direction was completed altered?  What came of that situation?

I hope that each of you finds many blessings in this year, whatever changes they might require.
