What does biblical mentoring mean?

It is my privilege to share with you a sweet word of inspiration  from on of our fabulous Team members, Vanessa, who serves More to Be in more ways than one:  She is our M2B Mentoring Network Assistant, Social Media Assistant, and a GET Connected leader for our Moms of Teens group.  She joined the More to Be Team after completing the very first Mentoring Study Course and has blessed our socks off ever since. I hope you take a few minutes to hear her heart for mentoring.

What does biblical mentoring mean to me?

A few years ago I would have been the last person in the world to be able to answer this question. That was then and this is now…and it is amazing how we can be changed in such a short amount of time. It makes me wonder, What if WE were all willing to be used by God to change someone’s life as quickly as mine was changed?”

I was always a believer and a committed to living as a woman of God, but it wasn’t until I truly surrendered to Christ that I was able to see real changed in my life. It seems that every door became opened to me and I saw things in a new light  I wanted to be so much more and I wanted to learn how to do all things through Christ.

Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Well it’s not, because change is possible! That’s one of the reasons I am so in love with the idea of biblical mentoring and the impact we can have on others who desire to change.

What if a simple cup of tea and an innocent conversation ends up to be a life changing for a neighbor in need?

Maybe that trip to the ice cream parlor with a group of teen girls causes a girl to open up about an issue she is dealing with?

If we just ask that one friend who is living a life without Christ to come to a church event with you, she may just say yes!

Mentoring HappensThere are so many ways that mentoring can happen daily, even when we least expect it.  Sometimes those surprising moments end up being the best mentoring experiences! This is why I love living with a mentoring mindset, because looking for the simple ways we can involve ourselves in another’s life can be life changing for that person!

2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not.
Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

When we want to impact others as mentors, it is as simple as being ready to share His word, to be alert to the needs around you, and be ready to step into those relationships with lasting impact!  I must admit, however, that sometimes I do not feel well equipped to mentor others, but the fact is that Jesus gives me His strength to step out when sometimes I rather shrink back.  What I do as a mentor doesn’t have to be perfect. WE do not have to be perfect!  We simply have to surrender to God’s will to use us as His vessel touch the lives of teens and women who need us!

I pray that you will surrender your hearts to God and let Him fill you with the unending desire to mentor.  We do have something to offer others. I pray that you will grow confident in your desire to impact others through embracing biblical mentoring.

So what next step can you take to grow as a mentor?

  1. Younger women need someone to talk to and they need good examples of how to walk by faith. When life is simple, fine. But life is rarely simple and women need to know how to handle situations in a way that honors God. I love that you’ve devoted your time and attention to mentoring and encouraging others to mentor.

I shared this with a private Facebook group called Morning Moments. We encourage one another to have those daily quiet times. I hope many will come and visit you and read your ebook. I grabbed a copy on my Kindle. Thank you!

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie
