Transformed Tuesday: Do you have the Voice?

What does your voice convey?

Is it powerful enough to grab attention?

Is it distinct enough to stand out among the loud voices within today’s screaming crowd?

do you have the voice

Each year, scores of hopefuls line up for a shot to compete on the popular TV show, The Voice.

Contestants are sifted and filtered through the competition’s process until all that remains are those who’ve somehow stood apart. These chosen few then have the opportunity to step in front of four red chairs—using only their voices to persuade at least one listener to turn around.

By this stage in the process, every contestant shows talent. Still, only a few will strike a chord with the discerning judges. And it’s a rarity still, to convince all four of them to simultaneously turn around.

As the auditions continue, the judges begin to hint toward what their listening for.

It’s not always the loudest voice or even the voice that hits every note with a perfect pitch.

Instead, each judge has his or her own preferences where one may enjoy the grit of a voice while another may be taken by the ease of the notes or a soothing emotion within its sound.

In the end, however, every judge is on the lookout for something different. All four judges are listening for a distinguishable voice—one that’s distinct enough to carry them through the competition—to connect with the audience, capture their attention, and convince them to vote.

“That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all Your wondrous works.” Psalm 26:7

I wonder—

Is my voice of thanksgiving stirring the hearts of those who hear it?

Is it distinct enough to move the listener?

Is it clear enough to convey the truth of its message and powerful enough to create change within their hearts?

The voice of thankfulness goes beyond the sounds of traditions and holidays.

It’s deeper than our voice of appreciation and much more powerful than our voice of family ideals. Our voice of thanksgiving begins within the quiet recesses of our heart. It doesn’t require a strain to shout over competitive noises. Instead, it quiets their disruption to convey its peace and the light of its hope.

As the holidays approach, let’s take time away from our festivities to listen to God’s voice. In those quiet moments, let’s remember His wondrous works and allow Him to strengthen our own voices of thankfulness to proclaim His truth to the world.
