December Music Favs: Christmas Music

what_goes_in

Christmas is no doubt my favorite time of year! Everyone is happy and I get to spend time with my family! I love the activities I do with my family, the smells of fires in my fireplace and the taste of my Nana’s homemade German Stollen bread on Christmas morning.

But if someone were to ask me what my favorite part of Christmas is, I just might have to say Christmas music!

I am the type of person who starts listening to Christmas music on November first and don’t want to stop listening, even after Christmas is over.  Here are my top 3 favorite Christmas tunes, and possibly the last time we’ll listen to them this season!

1.  “O Holy Night”  written by Adolphe Adam performed by Carrie Underwood

Perhaps one of the most notable Christmas songs is “O Holy Night.” Besides the goose-bump producing melody, this song truly embraces what Christmas is about — celebrating the birth of Jesus our Savior. The song travels through the life of Jesus with each chorus beckoning us to worship Him, whether it be by falling on our knees or beholding our King or praising his name forever!

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

‘Til He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!

O night divine, O night when Christ was born;

O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Oh-Holy-Night

2. “The Little Drummer Boy” written by Katherine Kennicott Davis performed by Pentatonix

The Little Drummer Boy” is another of my favorite Christmas songs because it reminds me that God truly wants our best in everything even if what we have to offer is small. The author of this song writes that this boy wants to honor Christ when he comes to see him. The arrangement I chose to link to for this song is done by my favorite A Capella group, Pentatonix! It gives me chills every time I listen to them.

I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

3.  “White Christmas” written by Irving Berlin sung by Bing Crosby

Finally my favorite Christmas song of all times is, “White Christmas” sung by Bing Crosby. For as long as I can remember, whenever my family gets our Christmas tree, we watch the movie, White Christmas. I practically have the whole movie memorized, not to mention the fact that I’ve had the song memorized since I was five! As soon as Thanksgiving is over, I sing this song pretty much everyday until Christmas. Sadly, I never do get the white Christmas, but I can still dream!

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the tree tops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I hope you enjoyed these selections as you savor the last days of the Christmas season!
