Do you hear what I hear?

Though the world is in desperate need for truth, not everyone wants to hear it.

Hearing the truth certainly dampened Herod’s spirits.

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Matthew 2:3 NKJV

Herod enjoyed his position as King of the Jews.  And although he wasn’t a stranger to Daniel’s prophecies of the coming Messiah, he wasn’t going to bow to anyone.  Herod hoped this story from the past could somehow be overlooked or forgotten.  As a paranoid, power-hungry king, he was determined to keep his crown and was known to crush anyone who threatened his reign.

Do you hear what I hear?

Hearing the truth troubled Herod–

But why did it trouble Jerusalem?

Jerusalem knows the details.  Their entire religious system hinges upon every prophecy.  Yet, instead of rejoicing, all of Jerusalem is just as troubled as their demented king.

[Tweet “Truth brings change. It sheds light on darkness and liberates the slaves of sin.”]

Often we prefer to stay in our current darkness.  Afraid of the truth’s revelation, we’ll grab hold of the vilest of kings rather than cling to the freedom within His miraculous Truth.

When the wise men inquire of His arrival, none of Jerusalem can answer.  They’ve missed the birth entirely.  So deaf to its sound, all of Jerusalem would rather continue in silence than to hear the truth the magi proclaim.

For the hearts of this people have grown dull.  Their ears are hard of hearing.  Matthew 13:15a NKJV

Are we listening?

Among the hustle and bustle of today’s crowded sound waves, are we listening to follow His Truth?

Are we attuned to His melody?

Are we stepping to the beat of His sound?

Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. Psalm 89:15 NKJV

Wise men are attuned to truth and recognize its sound. [tweetable]

During this festive season, may we celebrate the birth of our King by singing His praises and sharing His sound.
