The title of this post makes it seem like I have this all figured out. I don’t. I’m not going to pretend that I have it all together. I’m not going to pretend that my relationship with God isn’t a wrestle some days {most days maybe?}.
As the days are added to my years and my years turn into seasons, I’ve come to realize the incredibly strong pull that this world has on God’s children. Those of us who are choosing to pursue a relationship with God . . . we can see the pull that this world has on us.
A pull away from all things holy. A pull away from all things pure. A pull away from the Lord of all the Earth.
We’re so easily pulled into what the here and now has to offer.
Some days I float away with my thoughts, only thinking of myself . . . the things I want, the things I feel, the things I “deserve.”
Some days I can walk past the homeless man on the street, the Mom struggling to carry her groceries and herd her munchkins, the lady in the wheelchair trying to reach the mail from her mailbox.
Some days I can block from my mind those children I saw walking around the dirt roads of South Africa without shoes, with no guarantee of food, and no solid role models for miles. I can close my eyes and choose to forget.
Some days I can long for a different husband, a different life.
Some days I can fear a loss of control; hold my baby tight, convincing myself that I am his sole protector.
Some days I can long for money, a bigger house, fame, and recognition.
Some days I just really lose sight of what it’s all about.
And that’s just what the enemy of our souls desires.

The things of this world cannot compare to the richness of His love. But too often we forget and we lose our focus. We long for the things this world promises, offers, gives.
As seasons have grown in my relationship with Christ, I’ve come to realize that the key to staying fixed on God above all else, is to have eyes for the future. It’s easy to get swept away with the desires and longings of this world. The pull is just so great. But in the midst of these every day pulls, we must remember that this is just a blink of the eye in the grand picture of the clock of eternity.
To know what God has for us in eternity, that makes those desires seem fleeting.
To know what we have in our eternal relationship with God, that makes those desires seem worthless.
When I take my eyes off of the things right in front of me . . . when I focus my attention on my Jesus and what my relationship with Him means for my future . . . that’s when I lose hunger for the fleeting things before me. That’s when I run with arms open wide into the bosom of my Beloved, that’s when true peace rests in my veins, and that’s when gratitude for that which I already have bubbles up to the surface.
