For His Glory

I will strive to do everything for the glory of God.

Verse

1 Corinthians 10:31 (The Voice)

Whatever you do—whether you eat or drink or not—do it all to the glory of God!

Lord God, I want to live in such a way that whether I eat or drink . . . or not . . . that I do it all for your glory.

Whether I go to work or stay home, that I do it all for your glory.

Whether I serve at church or volunteer in an organization,  that I do it all for your glory.

Whether I engage in one-on-one conversation or speak before a crowd, that I do it all for your glory.

Whether I love on a friend or reach out to a stranger, that I do it all for your glory.

Whether I clean my home or wash the dishes or fold the laundry, that I do it all for your glory.

Whether I change a dirty diaper or drive an aging parent to a doctor’s appointment, that I do it all for your glory.

Whatever you have for me to do, on any day and at any time, I pray that the motive of my heart will always be to do it for your glory.

In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.

I will strive to do everything for the glory of God.

What does it mean to you to do something for the glory of God? I ask because I think it’s so important to slow ourselves down and think long and hard about the expressions we use so often because maybe they’ve lost their meaning.

So may I encourage you to take a moment, and sit quietly with the Lord.  Close your eyes. Take a deep breath.

Think about what you mean when you say you want to live for the glory of God. Is that truly your mission? And if it is, how are you going about fulfilling it?

When I close my eyes and reflect on living for God’s glory, I actually think of that locker room scene from Facing the Giants, when Coach Grant Taylor challenges the boys to play football and live their lives in a such way that they give God their best so that He always gets the glory.

Coach Taylor asked the boys a question, “What is the purpose of this team?” What if you took that question and applied it to your life:

What’s your main purpose?

Is your life all about you?

Is it about how you can look good?

Is it about you getting glory or God?

Coach Taylor explained to His team that they had an opportunity to play in such a way as to give God their best all the time, on and off the field. Their effort counted for something, but it was their focus on doing it for the glory of God that mattered most.

Isn’t the same true for us? Are we utterly devoted to God in every way, in every relationship, in every task? Are we willing to give everything our best, but with the motive that God gets all the glory?

Friend, if we belong to Christ, then shouldn’t everything we do be out of a desire to please God and reveal to the world the One they need most?

What is one attitude adjustment or habit change you can take to move your heart into a place of working at everything for the glory of God?
