His Story for His Glory

I will remember that my life is a story God is writing for others to see Him.

Verses

2 Corinthians 3:3 NLT

Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.

Father God, thank you for the way you write your story on our hearts.

Thank you for not using pen and ink, which can be destroyed and thrown away, but choosing to write with your Spirit. It’s like a permanent sharpie marker, recording evidence of your faithfulness, provisions, forgiveness, grace, truth, and redemption through the story you’re writing in our lives.

God, we give you our hearts, once again on this journey, and ask you to write your story for your glory.

In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.

I will remember that my life is a story God is writing for others to see Him.

If you’ve been a part a follower of More to Be since the beginning, you might remember one of my first resources, StoryHearts: Embracing the Handwriting of God. It was a downloadable devotional inviting you to consider the story God might be writing through your life, as I shared the story God was writing through mine. Sounds like a neat resource, right? So why isn’t it available?

Sometimes, it feels as though the story God is writing on our hearts has come to an end, but really, it’s just a pause marked by a divinely placed comma.

That pause may feel so long that you actually think it’s the end of the story.

But it is not. Because. God. Is. Not. Yet. Done.

Sometimes it’s hard to recognize how God is working His purposes in and through our stories. Sometimes we see a side of His work and presume that He must have written the last sentence. For example, when I wrote StoryHearts, I thought God was done with the story. At that time, only a few months had passed since reconciling with my dad after four years of silence following a terrible falling out. After the process of forgiveness God walked me through, I thought I was healed and the story was finished, but God needed to do more work in my story heart. I thought the restoration of our relationship was the end of the story, but it turned out it was only the beginning.  I could write a book about what God has accomplished since the moment we reunited — but I know that it’s not yet time. God is not yet done. And I don’t want to try to get ahead of Him this time, even though I like to jump to the last chapter before starting the first. Is this your struggle too?

I confess I want to know the ending before I agree to the beginning.

I want to know the outcome before I endure the waiting.

But it’s the journey that matters most.

It’s the unknowing in which we experience the gift of faith, as He writes His story for His glory.

It’s in the waiting that we experience the blessing of God’s provisions and the powerful sanctifying and transforming work He wants to accomplish in our lives.

I’ve come to believe that it’s actually not the end of the story God wants us to be pre-occupied with, as He’s already told us what happens. Victory in Jesus. Eternity with our Creator. A forever home without tears or pain or loss.

It is actually the present story He wants us to pursue Him most.

It is in the ‘no where’ that God is actually ‘now here’ . . . writing His story for His glory.

So will we embrace His story, even if the next chapter feels so uncertain, so far away?

What story has God been writing in your heart? Where do you need to give Him greater access and time to accomplish His work for His glory?
