The Power of the Overflow

I will seek God to fill me with all joy and peace as I trust in Him that I may overflow with hope onto others by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in me.

Verse

Romans 15:13

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

God, I pray that you, the source of our hope, will fill us completely with all joy and peace as we trust in You.

Please, Lord, fill us with such confident hope that through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us, that we may overflow more of you and less of ourselves, onto our families and friends, in our workplaces and ministries, throughout our neighborhoods and communities, in which you’ve called us into for your glory and good purposes.

In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.

God promises to fill us up with an overflowing hope that results in joy and peace.

What would you say is filling you up day in and day out? What’s taking up residence in your heart? What is consuming your thought-life? How are you spending your time and resources?

On an ordinary Monday, how do you find the energy to press on? When Wednesday hits, do you feel sapped of all desire to keep on going through “hump day?” What are you doing to make it to the finish line on Friday?

Maybe the promise of the weekend is your motivator. Do you bribe yourself with rewards, like a glass of wine or bowl of ice cream after dinner? Or a shopping trip, night out with the girls, or a Netflix binge?

We each crave a kind of fuel to get us through the daily grind.

And yet, I’m discovering through so many heart-honest conversations that the most God-loving, church-going, Bible-study attending women we know are secretly neglecting this awesome gift of soul-strength that God offers each one of us. Is this your struggle too?

I’m starting to call it the “great dupe.”

Satan’s lies are so darn convincing as he twists a good into a god. Like making self-motivation greater than Spirit-led living order to endure the mundane. Or turning the pursuit of time-management techniques into the answer rather than devoting time to be with the Lord and in the Word the first priority. Planning is wrong, but surrender at the starting point is a much better approach.

God promises to fill us up with an overflowing hope that results in joy and peace.

But will we receive it? We will embrace the kind of hope, joy, and peace that God offers, which is exactly what we need to get through grind?

Like an empty glass, we can’t fill ourselves.

We need the source to quench our souls . . . Jesus, himself.”

We need the filling that comes through the work of the Holy Spirit as we devote time to being in the Word each and every day.

Without ongoing excuses but with much overflowing grace.

So will we become women who slow down long enough each day to be filled up to overflowing by God himself, so that we can experience joy and peace that comes from Him and overflow His hope onto our family and friends, workplaces and ministries, communities and neighbors?

Imagine that kind of transformed living. Imagine that kind of impact.

What will you do to make changes in your routine so that you can be filled up by God daily?
