Simply Be

I will seek to live as a chosen, holy, dearly loved child of God who has been called out of darkness and into His wonderful light, that I may tell others about His marvelous works and praise His holy name.

Verse

Colossians 3:12  (NIV)

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

God, thank you for choosing us to be your holy and dearly loved children. May we walk in that identity, clothing ourselves with compassion, kindness, gentleness, and patience.

Lord, help us to remember who we are and whose we are.

Yes, God, you have made us a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, set apart as your special possession. We are here to declare the praises of You who called us out of the darkness and into your wonderful light.

May we always remember the purpose of this journey, pressing forward with you and for you. May we not get stuck in the past. May we live in the present cognizant of the promise of eternity ahead.

In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.

I will seek to live as a chosen, holy, dearly loved child of God who has been called out of darkness and into His wonderful light.

What words do you use to describe the essence of who you are? When you look in the mirror. When you remember your past. When you think of yourself in this present moment. As you think about the future.

What does your word cloud look like? It is filled with words like . . .

chosen

holy

dearly loved

created in His image made

fearfully and wonderfully made

gifted

anointed

masterpiece

My guess is that the first words that come to your mind throughout your day are more indicative of your failures and mistakes, shame and regrets, rather than reflecting the truth of who you are in Christ.

Maybe there’s some truth in those harsh words. Maybe you did mess up and are filled with remorse. But your behavior doesn’t define who you are or what God wants to accomplish through you.

When Christ died on the cross for your sin, He died for all of it. Past. Present. Future.

You’ll never be good enough, smart enough, capable enough.

You’ll never arrive at a place of having it all together.

That dream puts you on the cross rather than honoring the sacrifice of Jesus who already paid the price.

So what if you gave up trying to be enough and simply began being you?

What if you embraced the identity God gives you as His holy, chosen, and dearly loved child? What if you embraced His truth that you are His special possession with a divine appointment to declare to the world the good news of the One who took you out of the darkness and brought you into this wonderful life of light?

What if moving forward, brave and bold, bright and beautiful, was simply about being present in the identity God has given you today?

What is standing in the way of you receiving your identity in Christ and living into it every single day?
