To My Friend, The Dreamer

I know it’s there. That feeling that won’t go away. That feeling that says perhaps you were made for much more than you think. That feeling that says that you were meant to do something great. Something big. Something for His glory.

Oh friend, I get it.

I know the aches of a God-sized dream realized and the fear that often holds us back.

I know that deep down there’s something big that you want to do for God but you’re hesitant to give it life. To give it a name. To give it all you’ve got.

He wants you to step out in faith and do the scary work He's called you to do. - Amanda

Did you know that God really does want to grant you the desires of your heart? Oh yes, He does. He wants you to glorify Him.

He wants you to step out in faith and do the scary work He’s called you to do.

David was no stranger to the ache of a God-sized dream.  No stranger to the anointing but not yet the appointing season of faith. David was no stranger to spiritual warfare and the battles that raged on around him. Doing things that required an enormous amount of faith and trust with very little game plan was nothing new to him. David was a dreamer, but more importantly, he was a man who pursued God first.

May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.

Psalm 20:4

Here he gives us these sweet words that a dreamer longs to hear: “May God grant your heart’s desires” (vs. 4).  This prayer in Psalm 20 from David is fresh off a victory over his enemies. It wasn’t his first battle and it wouldn’t be his last, but he prays over his people, over the people of Israel this anointed prayer of victory and triumph.  May all their plans succeed and may they glorify God and wave their banners high in His name (vs. 5).

My friend, that’s what we are to do.

Glorify Him in what we are doing, in what we want to do for Him.

We are to be obedient in the season we are in and in the place He’s put us.

Friend, I get dreaming big. I want to be an author. I want to write words and books that move people to have a deeper relationship with God. I want to start a non-profit ministry for women. I want to help grow churches and equip leaders for ministry. The list goes on, but suffice it to say, I’ve got some plans in my heart. I dream big. I want to do big things for God.

And like you, my dreamer friend, I want those things to be successful. I want them to glorify God and I want them to honor Him and help grow His Kingdom.  And because I believe that God’s word is true, I know He wants to do things with me too. He’s planted those things in my heart and I know it because thinking about doing them makes me feel both terrified and alive at the same time.

I know that God wants to grant me the desires of my heart, but I also know and trust in the season and in His timing for those things to come true.

A lesson I’m still learning and often, the hard way.

David was an example of this to us. He was anointed as a teenager, that he would one day take the throne and reign as king. But David didn’t reign as king until much later. He went back and tended to the sheep in the fields until it was his time to step out and do the work God had designed for him to do. So my friend, rest on these words today.

God wants to grant the desires of your heart.

He wants to work in you and through you to accomplish the things He designed you to do on this earth.

Keep tending the sheep in your field.

Keep pursuing God and trusting in His timing.

Keep sowing the seeds where you are and when the harvest comes you will be ready.

Whatever your dream is, you can entrust that to God. You can surrender it to Him and you don’t have to be afraid to give it all you’ve got. God wants to do in us things we can’t even imagine.  If we will surrender to Him, we will see Ephesians 3:20 come to life.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Ephesians 3:20 NLT

May God accomplish His plans through us my friend, and may we be the willing vessels He uses to bring glory to His name. Amen.
