Even the Impossible is Possible with God

Everything is possible with God.

Everything.

So why doesn’t it feel like that from day-to-day?

I don’t know about you, but the obstacles before me often feel insurmountable. Our oldest is in college with our second on the way and two more on their heels. Financially, it’s impossible to figure out how we’re going to fund their education on our ministry-based income. Oh, I know that God will provide — He’s been faithful thus far. But that doesn’t change the fact that from my human perspective, it seems impossible.

I also have this ridiculously vivid dream to have a house with a hospitality barn backed up to fields and riding trails and horses and . . . . do you see where that is going? My heart beats loudly for that imaginary place to be filled long farm tables covered with home-made food and cozy couches inviting sojourners to come rest and find refreshment at the Farm at Selah. Yep, I even have a name for it.

Even the Impossible is Possible with God

I could tell you about the property located twenty feet from my driveway that is for sale, perfect for “said” farm. But there is one problem. I don’t have the financial resources to buy it, especially with those looming college bills.

Oh, I know, a risk-taking financial guru could come up with a plan that this woman can’t quite figure out. I’ve suggested to my husband that we only need a backer and he reminds me that backers want their money back. Maybe I need to find a dude like the Rich Young Ruler would like to be my silent partner? Sounds good, right? I’ve even chatted with God about that, but maybe you pick up on the irony.

The Rich Young Ruler wanted to keep all His possessions and still have kingdom access.

That’s not how it works.

As Richie slipped away, Jesus turned to the disciples and said, “I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I’ll say it again — it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for rich person to enter the Kingdom of God.” (Matthew 14:23-24).

I wish it wasn’t so, because I want to be rich by first-world standards. I want to have those dollars in the bank to pay for my kiddo’s education and save the gazillion dollars of interest they’ll owe on loans. I want to be able to buy that property across the street to serve the people God has laid on my heart with the vision that is so crystal clear I can touch it.

There are days I pray, “God, you promise that what seems impossible from a human perspective, but I know you can accomplish it.” And yet, soon as those words slip out of my mouth, I realize that I’ve got my prayer all wrong.

Praying for the impossible shouldn’t be about the possessions we desire, even if our motives are pure.

Praying for the impossible should be about God’s kingdom purposes being accomplished in spite of our everyday obstacles.

So my prayer is changing from, “God, can you give us more money? Can you give us that property?” to “God, I trust you to do the impossible with our financial resources. I trust you to provide for the kiddos education, in any way you see fit. I trust you to do the impossible with this dream for the Farm at Selah. May you create that place in reality, if that is your will. May you create that place in my heart, if that is your will. I trust you to do what seems humanly impossible because, with you, everything is possible. Give me eyes to see when your possibilities are right in front of me. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.”

What humanly impossible prayer have you been praying that needs to shift towards an everything possible prayer that lines up with God’s kingdom purposes?

Heavenly Father, thank you for being a God who does the impossible. Thank you that human limitations do not apply to you. Please reveal to me, God, the way I expect you to perform according to my limited perspective. Forgive me when I make what I have and want more important that your Kingdom business. Give me a heart to follow you anywhere at any time for any reason. May I not ever slip away like the Rich Young Ruler. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.

Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.

Matthew 19:26 NLT
