What does sisterhood mean to you? Is it a wounding word or one that reminds you of God’s faithful provisions?
On this episode of the More to Be Podcast, I’m joined by Heather Boersma, a fellow speaker, author and life coach with a heart for reaching the next generation of teen girls with hope and God’s love. While she might be passionate about reaching teens, her message is for all us.
This episode is packed full of hope and practical biblical wisdom for navigating through anxiety, bullying, motherhood, and friendship.
You’ll see why her latest book, Letters from a Big Sister, is such a powerful tool we can put in the hands of teen and college-age girls, but you just might decide to read it for yourself first!
My anxiety was a result of underlying beliefs as I sought to get approval from others. – Heather
The trigger was my mom’s breast cancer diagnosis, a discovery she carried the gene, and then I got tested and found out I had it. – Heather
We can’t control all the triggers coming at us but we can learn to respond differently. – Elisa
We don’t have to “pick” the Fruit of the Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit is inside of us, we have the Fruit of the Spirit in us. – Heather
To activate the spiritual gifts and Fruit of the Spirit that God has placed inside of us, we can speak it out loud. For example, “Spirit of Peace, rise up and take the lead, and body and soul come into alignment with peace.” – Heather
One of the main misconceptions among the people of God is that we must grab the fruit instead of allowing God to produce it in us. – Elisa
If we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. – Galatians 5:25
Hope is actually medicine for the body — it releases a natural chemical similar to morphine. – Heather
Be vulnerable with your daughter about the difficulties you went through at their age. – Heather
Acknowledge the wound, then give to God. – Elisa
What you do and say is a reflection of you. What others do to you is a reflection of them. – Heather
You are meant to be each other’s safe place. – Heather
The enemy gets in and undermines our sisterhood and who we are in His image. – Elisa
We cannot look at God’s love through the distorted love that we’ve experienced. We have to look through the lens of what Christ has done. – Elisa
