Recently one of my mentor-girls exclaimed,

You always have the coolest shirts and little pieces of jewelry with some message or special meaning.

I’m glad to see that the message I am conveying is getting her attention. My hope is that she, and others, will see the messages — like encourage one another, hope, praise the Lord in this moment, transformed, redeemed, and his love — more than they see me!

Yet even though I was glad that the t-shirt I was wearing caught her attention, I was struck by the reality that my motivation in investing in clothes and jewelry engraved with a Biblical truths has really been about ME. Yes. ME.

I’ve come to realize that I am more and more like the Israelites: eager to learn and change, but quick to forget and turn away. The jewelry I wear and slogans I’m willing to put across my body are more and more about building reminders into my day, with the hope that they’ll help me check my spirit and actions to make sure it lines up with how God is calling me to live.

In the past, I’ve used anything and everything as reminders, such as cheap bracelets from the dollar store, a ribbon tied around my wrist, and even a small rub-on tattoo on the inside of my forearm (can’t go permanent, for the lessons are so many and constantly evolving). Of course, I love it when I can afford to pick up a new t-shirt or bag with a verse or message steeped in meaning! My new favorite online store is something quite special…

Personally, I am loving this new beach bag! It is so well made and exactly the right size toting my essentials to the beach. The handle length is ideal for fitting well over my shoulder and the straps are smooth, feeling comfortable on my bathing-suit bare shoulders. I am also more than tickled with the hoodie sweatshirt like this one. It is perfect for cool summer evenings. Literally, where has this sweatshirt been all my life? It is so lightweight and fits super comfortable!
