Transformed Tuesday: Living Intentionally on Purpose

Do you ever have days when you feel as if someone has pressed the “repeat” button on your life?

Seeing the beauty in every day...

For me, life can seem mundane and repetitive at times.  I get up, shower, make breakfast, get the kids up and ready and out the door, get myself to work, come home, make dinner, do laundry, give love, offer hugs and kisses, write, blog, chat, and go to bed.  And the next day, I’m at it again, my life on repeat.

Even in the midst of the mundane, it is possible to come to a place of intentional living and be purposeful about pursuing all of the blessings that life has to offer.

It’s not easy for me though.  I often find myself striving for simplicity and reaching for air just to breathe.

Intention:  the act or instance of determining.

How does one live intentionally, on purpose, when the mundane of life has snuffed out your zest for living?

Here are few things you can do to take steps to living a more intentional life:

PRAY and invite God into your day.

It’s important to relinquish our day into the hands of God, before we even get started on our task lists.  I like to offer up a simple prayer, often before even getting out of bed in the morning.  It goes something like this:

God, thank you for this beautiful day.  Today, I offer you my hands, Lord; use them for your glory.  I offer you my feet, Lord; lead me where you would have me to go.  I offer you my eyes, Lord; may I see through the eyes of faith, with understanding.  I offer you my ears, Lord; may I hear your voice clearly.  Give me the grace to handle whatever comes my way today, and may I do all with a heart of joy and service unto You and others.  Amen.

PLAN ahead.

As the saying goes, “those who fail to plan, plan to fail.”  As a busy mom who works full time and homeschools (among other things), it is imperative that I try to plan ahead if at all possible.  Whether that be meal planning, lesson planning, having a cleaning schedule, or scheduling in time to study God’s Word, planning is vital to my sanity. This does not mean that I can’t be spontaneous, it just means I am prepared.  Preparation and planning are good. We will have the go with the flow days, too.  But for the most part, planning ahead will save hours of time.

PURPOSE to find meaning in all that you do.

All of life has meaning and purpose. Even the most mundane task like putting clothes away has a purpose.  There is beauty to be seen around every corner, in every crack and crevice, in every pile of papers. When we surrender ourselves to the Lord, all that we do is to bring Him glory and honor.  Whether that be schooling our children or going to school, cooking a meal or cleaning up the dishes, cleaning our home or our room, it’s all to be done unto Him and for Him.

  1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

…Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

PERSPECTIVE is key.

There is a saying, “Attitude is everything.”  Are you looking at your life through a glass half-full or a glass half-empty?  Are you purposing to find beauty beyond the mess, choosing to see through new eyes?  Sometimes we simply need to look at our day, with all of its ups and downs, and change the way we see.  I love this quote:

“If you don’t like something, change it;
if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.”

 — Mary Engelbreit

We must choose to live each day intentionally, on purpose.  My desire is to wake up each morning and seek out the beauty that is wrapped up in every moment of every day.

My pastor often says, “If you want to change your life, change your day.”

What can you do today to begin to take steps toward intentional, purposeful living?

  1. It’s so often our perspective that needs adjusting isn’t it? I have found myself learning to readjust my outlook over and over again. And every time I do, i free myself to be more intentional, more purposeful, more in tune with God. Thank you for a practical and encouraging post.

  2. wonderfully written, easy to grasp those tangible things, and I couldn’t agree more. we need to live intentionally in every aspect of our lives and I find once we are, things seem to flow a lot better. I love that you added in about perspective, SO true.

    Thanks for sharing Barbie!!!
