Do you see God as your Faithful Rock? Does He feel firm underneath your feet?
Or do you feel like your slipping into the mud . . . maybe not too far from solid ground but enough to scare you?
Maybe you’re knee-deep in the middle of the worst kind of boot-stuck, foot slipping, face-planting kind of mud? That was me, literally, when I needed my friend to give me a hand and help me out. Maybe that’s where you find yourself today too.
No matter what led to the point in which we find ourselves today . . . in slippery mud or knee-deep into the muck . . . we can find hope in knowing there is always a way out. We might need to ask for help. We might need to lean on others. We might have to confess the sin that got us there in the first case.
Sure, none of that will be easy, especially at a time when life feels shaky and uncertain. Yet the hope we can cling to is this: God is our Faithful Rock. He is not shaken. He is not moved. He is solid and sure, a foundation on which we can forever stand, even with mud-covered feet.
The Rock—his work is perfect; all his ways are just. A faithful God, without bias, he is righteous and true.

He doesn’t look at us with bias, judging us the way we judge ourselves and each other. He sees His child, learning and growing, exploring and discovering, sometimes through mishaps and mistakes. He is for us, even when we’ve not been wholeheartedly for Him. He remains even when we have turned towards other gods, making idols of everything He warned us against. And when we’re ready to return to Him alone, He receives us as the prodigal did for His own son, celebrating our return.
Heavenly Father, you are My Rock. Your work is perfect. Your ways are just. You are a faithful God. You are without bias. You are righteous and true. Forgive me, Lord, for turning from You when I should have run into the shelter of Your wings. Thank You that you welcome me home, time and time again.
