For His Glory: Two Teen Olympians Honor God with their Gold Medals

Other than their new identities as teenage Olympic gold medalists, Gabby Douglas and Missy Franklin don’t seem to have a lot in common. Gabby, 16 and of African-American descent, grew up in Virginia Beach as one of four children. Missy, 17, is a Canadian-American currently residing in Colorado, her parents’ only child. Gymnast Gabby stands at just 4’11” tall, while swimmer Missy towers at 6’1”.  In a sport that requires just as much artistry as it does raw athleticism, Gabby is as graceful and elegant as they come. Missy, on the other hand, relies on perfect form and sheer muscle…

Trading in Habit-Days for Open-Heart Days

I have a confession to make. This is Year Eight. That fact still makes my eyes widen and my heart skip. If you’re not a mom, don’t run away. You’ll need to think about this if you step into a mentoring role. I recently came across a thought provoking post by author and speaker, Sheila Wray Gregoire, on the topic of dating and teens that grabbed my attention. Sheila writes, “My two girls are often the envy of some of the other moms in the youth…

Within My Soul It’s Stirring

It was there.  I could feel it.  It wasn’t going away.  Send her a message and tell her.  Don’t push this aside, do it now.  The feeling wasn’t going away. Do it now.  But she’s probably busy and won’t answer back.  It doesn’t matter, tell her anyway.  “Hey girl.  I just wanted to let you know what a blessing you are. You can get through anything.  You’re one of the strongest people I know. I love you.”   “Thank you girl.”   It was all she said back, but she didn’t need to say another word.  The past few months had been difficult…
