If you would have asked me ten years ago what I thought about suffering, I would have had no words for you. That’s not because I had never “suffered.” On the contrary. As my dear friend used to say to me, “You suffered enough in you life, you deserve for it to be without suffering now.”
That never quite settled my soul, however, because I knew both that the suffering I experienced . . . and the suffering she was experiencing . . . had nothing to do with “paying our dues” or “earning our stripes.”
I knew in my heart that suffering was a part of life, but I didn’t know why.
I’d yet to learn that suffering is a part of our sanctification — about us becoming more like Christ. That’s a truth that came to settle on my soul through more life-changing experiences and deep-in-the-word journeys. I’m sharing about what I discovered over at a wonderful new ministry site, Deeper Waters, led by my precious friend, Denise Hughes.
