How to Make a Fresh Start Each Day

That blaring alarm screams at you to get up and get going, meanwhile all you want to do is roll over and snag another doze (multiplied a dozen times, at least).

Maybe that’s how your morning starts.

Or maybe you’re like me, and the alarm only confirms that it’s time to start the day, physically speaking.

Does your mind, like mine, kick into gear long before the beep, beep, beep demands your feet hit the floor?

Yes, my mind races faster than my heart beats, as I consider all the details of the day ahead. I’ve been this way forever, and the results of my Highlands Assessment confirmed why — I have a God-given ability to see the big picture, understand the implications of actions, and perceive necessary steps worth taking over the long haul. What does that mean? Well, my brain is always processing responsibilities and the nuances of every relationship. Are you like this?

Count Your Own Plates

It’s hard to “turn off” my mind because I’m so keenly aware of what must be done — and I have a lot to do because I’m energized by having a number of plates in the air. Oh yes, I’m what Highlands calls a Generalist, meaning I like lots of projects and interacting with people, although there’s enough Specialist in me that I like to go deep on one thing on occasion.

As a Generalist, I also thrive from “people”  time, and yet because of the way I take it all in, I also need time alone to recharge and process with God. I can’t go a week without having at least one unscheduled, unrushed morning to sit long with God and unload everything in my heart and mind, in addition to my Starting Point time. I also need a daily “to do” list that allows me to empty my mind, but also prioritize responsibilities, because while I think I can do it all, I know I can’t!

To onlookers, I might seem like someone who is too busy, but really, I’m operating in my God-given wiring. What does your wiring look like?

It’s not about how many plates you are spinning compared to someone else — it’s what’s on your plates that matters.

Yes, there are times that may be doing too much, like when I say “yes” to something that should have been a “no” or when I don’t leave enough margin for the unexpected. There is a balance we need to find between our God-given wiring and our own flesh-battles!

How has God wired you to approach each day? What steps do you need to take to get intentional with God about your time?

Friend, it’s questions like these that the Restart Planner will help you find the answers to  — not because I’ll tell you the answer, but rather I’ve created a place for you to connect with God on how you spend your time. Like Meet the New You, the Restart Planner is an invitation for you to encounter God afresh as you look at various areas of your life.

Restart Planner Proof

The Restart Planner is a starting point for your daily conversation with God—it’s your agenda for meeting with Him to discuss how to approach your life in light of how He made you and use what He’s given you each and every day.

Why is it called restart?

Because every day needs a restart . . . a moment in which we get to embrace His mercy anew. This is what I consider our “restart” gift from God. Just when you think you’re out of hope, perspective, and the ability to persevere, by His grace, God gives you a restart with a brand new day!
