How should we act at parties? Like dancing and stuff?

I have to admit, I like a good party as much as the next girl. I love to dance and laugh and have a good time. Don’t forget, Jesus was at a wedding in Cana (see John 2:1-11). Back then, the celebrations lasted days! I bet it was a blast! Lots of dancing, laughing, and fun. But I suspect you are not question whether we should dance, but rather how should we dance.   Here are a couple of Scriptures that can help us settle this matter:
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension or jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Pretty straight forward, huh? If we are to behave decently as scripture says, dancing closely with another, pressing up against another is not decent. That could lead to sexual immorality. We are not to get drunk either. When we are in a drunken state, it could also lead to fits of rage, sexual immorality, impurity, hatred, lack of self-control… Need I go on? We are warned that all of these things are of sinful nature.
So, how are we supposed to act? What are we supposed to do? Let’s continue reading in Galatians.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Phew! What a relief! God tells us what is expected of us too, not just the don’ts. We can make good decisions by testing our actions against these scriptures. Ask yourself, “Is what I am doing or going to do exemplary of…
LOVE? (God’s love)
JOY? (God’s joy)
PEACE? (God’s peace)
PATIENCE?
KINDNESS?
GOODNESS? (God’s goodness)
FAITHFULNESS? (to God)
GENTLENESS? (to others)
SELF-CONTROL?
If you answer these questions, chances are you will understand more clearly what God’s desire is for us in every circumstance. I hope this answered your question! Keep them coming!
