The 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make

I am excited to share with you a Feature It review from my daughter, Leah, whose about to turn 13.  She is an avid and fast reader, which means it is hard to keep her bookshelf filled.  This one, however, was a perfect match!  Read on!

“I want you to read this book,” my mom said as she handed me a book from a stack passed onto her by a friend.

Of course I had the typical teenager reaction of “not another this is how to live book.”  Little did I know that The 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make: A Guide for Teens, by Sean Covey, was completely different than any other teen book I had ever read. The book starts out with an introduction and note from the author promising you that this book is different. Typical for a teenage book, right?  But honestly, it is different!

Each chapter offers a topic about a particular area of stress along with how to make decisions when you find yourself in that situation, such as these:  First School, Friends, Parents, Dating and Sex, Addictions and Self-worth. Each chapter begins with the top ten statements from teens around the world regarding that particular subject.

You might be asking yourself how this is different from any other book?  Let me tell you.  The difference is revealed when you read the stories of teenagers from across the globe who have experienced sometimes horrific and other times awe inspiring events. These stories touch the hearts of teenagers, and are sometimes even more powerful then the instructions provided. As teens, when we see the cause and effect of actions through these stories, we are forced to evaluate our own decisions.

I was most effected by the short summary about Barbie and GI Joe action figures. I had never thought of how easy it is to compare our physical appearance to that of toy, so this story put into perspective the fact that it is absolutely impossible for a human to look like a toy.

“If Barbie were a real person she would be 5’9” tall, have a neck twice the length of a normal human’s neck, and weigh 110 pounds, only 76 percent of her healthy weight. Her measurement would be 38-18-32, and her feet would be too small to support her when she walks.  Similarly, young boys are supposed to have muscles popping out all over their bodies like the GI Joe Extreme action figure. If GI Joe were life-size, he would have a 55-inch chest and 27-inch bicep. In other words, his biceps would be almost as big as his waist and bigger than most competitive body builders.”

Reading this portion of The 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make: A Guide for Teens, helped me get a new perspective on my understanding of body image.

Trust me, here were countless stories in this book that I would love to share, but I want to leave you hanging. It is worth picking up a copy for yourself! If I could offer you a money back guarantee, I would.  The 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make: A Guide for Teens will change how you think and encourage you to make the right decisions in your life.
